FORMER RAF CORPORAL CONVICTED OF VOYEURISM AND BACK IN COURT FOR BREACH OF PROBATION
A former Royal Air Force corporal, who was discharged from the military following a conviction for voyeurism, appeared in court once more for failing to comply with the probation conditions of his sentence.Robbie Coils, a resident of County Durham, was discharged from the RAF during a Court-Martial held at the Military Court located in Catterick Garrison after he pleaded guilty to voyeurism charges in June 2024.
His sentence included a two-year community order, requiring participation in a specified activity program for up to 90 days and ten days of rehabilitation activities, both supervised by the Probation Service.
Additionally, Coils was mandated to register as a sex offender for five years.
While the voyeurism offence involved a single photograph that was later deleted, and despite Coils having no prior criminal record, the court noted his 'exemplary' service history and his early guilty plea.
An appeal against his sentence was filed but ultimately dismissed.
At Durham Crown Court on Wednesday, March 25, 31-year-old Coils, from Dene Court, Witton Gilbert, faced allegations of breaching the court’s orders.
Prosecutor Emily Jo Willis confirmed the breach was related to missed probation appointments that were part of his community order.
During the hearing, Recorder Geraldine Kelly KC acknowledged that Coils had generally complied with most aspects of the order.
She considered how best to respond to the breach, indicating options such as a fine, additional unpaid work, or more rehabilitation activity days.
The judge decided to add ten more days of rehabilitation activities, emphasising that this would aid his future rehabilitation.
While this was his first breach, she warned that a second breach could result in the revocation of his order and possible custody.
The court made clear that compliance was mandatory, and the additional activity days were scheduled to extend the order, which was set to conclude in June.
