RIO HALL OF TENBY AND PEMBROKESHIRE SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL PET CRUELTY AND PREVIOUS ANIMAL ABUSE
Rio Daryle Hall, born on July 29, 1987, and formerly residing in Milford Haven, has been convicted of heinous acts of animal cruelty that have shocked the local community and animal welfare advocates alike. Most recently, Hall was living at Heywood Court in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, when he committed a series of brutal acts against an innocent eight-week-old kitten named Angel.According to court reports, Hall subjected the defenseless kitten to a series of sadistic treatments that ultimately led to her death. The cruelty began with him wetting the tiny animal and placing her on a hot radiator, which caused severe blistering of her delicate skin. This initial act of torture was followed by a violent kick that resulted in a fractured skull, a grievous injury that underscored the severity of his abuse. The final act of mutilation involved Hall using scissors to cut off Angel’s ears, a horrifying act that demonstrated a complete disregard for the creature’s suffering.
Caroline Thies, Hall’s partner and the mother of his two children, was the one who took Angel to the veterinarian after witnessing her suffering. The vet’s examination revealed multiple fractures, including injuries to the kitten’s skull and legs, confirming that the injuries were inflicted by human hands—either through kicking, stomping, or throwing her. The veterinarian concluded that Angel’s injuries were consistent with deliberate abuse, and sadly, the kitten had to be euthanized to end her pain and suffering.
This case is not isolated. Hall’s history of animal cruelty dates back to 2006, when he was banned from keeping dogs and cats after kicking his dog, Benji, and breaking the animal’s back legs. Despite this previous conviction, Hall continued to pose a danger to animals. His partner, Caroline Thies, who as of 2018 was still living with him, received a six-month conditional discharge and was banned from keeping cats or dogs for ten years after pleading guilty to failing to prevent unnecessary suffering to an animal.
As of September 2018, reports indicate that Hall was living in homeless accommodation in Pembroke, suggesting a decline in his circumstances and possibly reflecting the consequences of his repeated cruelty. It appears that Thies has finally distanced herself from Hall, having decided to end their relationship.
In sentencing, Hall was sentenced to six months in jail for his cruelty towards Angel. His previous 10-year ban on keeping animals, imposed after his attack on Benji, was extended to a lifetime ban following his conviction for the cruelty inflicted on Angel. This case underscores the ongoing issues of animal abuse in Pembrokeshire and highlights the importance of strict enforcement of animal protection laws.
