NORTH YORKSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR RAPING PREGNANT WOMAN
A man named Richard Yorke, aged 21 from Tollerton, North Yorkshire, was convicted of attacking a pregnant woman.
Despite confessing to the assault and offering an apology to his victim, Yorke chose to deny the charges in court, leading to a trial.
During the attack, Yorke continued his assault even as his victim pleaded for him to stop, telling him "no" and "I don’t want this." The victim's life was significantly affected by the event, which was described as "very difficult" for her, and she was characterized as "honest, caring." Judge Sean Morris, who presided over the case, condemned Yorke for his failure to admit guilt, saying, "You are the most stupid defendant I have come across in a long time," and emphasized that "any sympathy a court has for a defendant goes out of the window when they plead not guilty." Yorke was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison and will be required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, even if released on license after serving half of his sentence.
The judge also issued a stern warning: "Can you remind everyone who is on trial for rape that they get credit for guilty pleas?
And remember – no means no." The court also highlighted the importance of understanding consent with the statement, "Her life has been turned upside down by it.
People have got to learn no means no."
