RICHARD WEBB SENTENCED IN WILTSHIRE FOR SIX-YEAR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL
In a case that has shocked the community of Wiltshire, Richard Webb, a 65-year-old man from Trowbridge, has been convicted and sentenced for a prolonged period of sexual abuse involving a young girl.The abuse spanned over six years, beginning in 1996 and continuing until 2002, during which Webb subjected the victim to multiple acts of indecent assault.
Webb's trial took place over four days at Winchester Crown Court, where the jury found him guilty of six counts of indecent assault.
Following the verdict, the court sentenced him to a term of eight years in prison on November 20.
The sentencing has brought a sense of justice to the victim and her family, who have endured years of emotional trauma.
The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, expressed her feelings about the ordeal, stating, “I feel as though those years are lost to me.
It feels like I have disassociated myself from most of my childhood.” She further added, “He ruined my life.
I don’t think I will ever get over what he did to me.
I will forever be trying to deal with the abuse I suffered.” Detective Constable Lauren Barnard of Wiltshire Police commented on the case, emphasizing the profound impact of the abuse.
“It is clear from the impact statement from the victim just how much she has suffered and continues to suffer to this day as a result of the abuse inflicted upon her by Webb,” she said.
“His actions have deprived someone of a happy childhood, purely for his own sexual gratification.
His actions are abhorrent, and I am pleased he will now serve a custodial sentence for his behaviour.” DC Barnard also praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward.
“I would like to take this opportunity to praise the victim for bravely reporting her ordeal to police – this was the first time she had ever spoken to anybody about exactly what she had been through.
Without her bravery, we would not have been able to put Webb before the courts for justice to be served.”
