RICHARD WEAR SENTENCED IN HALIFAX FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL IN BRADFORD
In a case that has shocked the community, 62-year-old Richard Wear from Halifax has been sentenced to a total of five years and three months in prison following his conviction for the sexual abuse of a young girl. The incident, which took place in Bradford, was brought to light during a court hearing at Bradford Crown Court, where Wear pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to his heinous actions.
Wear, whose address is listed as Wells Court, just off Queensbury Road in the Boothtown area of Halifax, faced four counts of sexual assault involving a girl under the age of 13.
Additionally, he admitted to inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
The court was informed that Wear had indecently touched the young girl over her clothing and, on at least one occasion, had made her touch him inappropriately.
Prosecutor Catherine Silverton detailed the disturbing nature of the offenses, emphasizing that Wear's actions were both invasive and exploitative.
During police questioning, Wear denied the allegations, claiming that the girl was lying about the incidents.
However, the evidence and the victim's testimony led to his guilty plea.
The young girl, who was the victim in this case, provided a heartfelt victim personal statement.
She revealed that the trauma from Wear’s abuse has left her suffering from chronic anxiety and panic attacks, which have severely impacted her ability to breathe and function normally.
Her words underscored the profound and lasting impact of the abuse on her mental health.
In sentencing, Judge Hatton acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected prison conditions and the overall environment of incarceration.
Nonetheless, he emphasized that a lengthy custodial sentence was unavoidable given the severity of the crimes committed.
As part of his sentence, Wear is required to register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further harm.
Furthermore, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting Wear’s activities and contact to protect the community from any potential risk he might pose in the future.
