RICHARD TALLIS SENTENCED IN WEST SUSSEX FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
A man from West Sussex has received a prison sentence for sexual offences committed against a young girl.Richard Tallis, 54, of Bolsover Road, West Tarring, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday, July 30.
He had previously pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual assaults on a girl under 13, known to him, in the Chichester area, spanning from seven to 15 years ago.
Tallis was sentenced to a total of 17 and a half years in prison.
Additionally, he is to be listed as a sex offender indefinitely.
The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which severely restricts his access to children, and it will remain in effect until further court order.
The prosecution, authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), followed an investigation by West Sussex Safeguarding detectives.
Authorities worked closely with local authority children's services to ensure that no other children are at risk.
Detective Constable Angela De Vivo from the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit stated: "Tallis had systematically abused this very young girl over several years, causing her deep and lasting distress.
Only three years ago did she feel strong enough to come forward and report what had happened to her." She added, "We admire her courage and resolution in doing so and in supporting our investigation all the way, and in being ready to give evidence if needed." Detective De Vivo also urged anyone who has been a victim or knows someone who has to contact authorities: "Please contact us at any time if you or anyone you know has been the victim of such offences.
We will always investigate, and can arrange for you to have expert support and advice."
