BODY OF WANTED SEX OFFENDER FOUND SIX MONTHS AFTER DISAPPEARANCE IN WATCHET
The preserved, mummified remains of a sex offender wanted by authorities in connection with his partner’s death were uncovered in a caravan six months later, an inquest was told.Richard Scatchard, aged 70, was being actively sought after Kelly Faiers, aged 61, was found dead at his residence in Minehead, Somerset, in October 2023.
Scatchard was on a life license following a conviction for drugging and sexually assaulting women, and police were pursuing him after Ms Faiers died from an overdose of sleeping pills and alcohol.
The last confirmed sighting of Scatchard occurred in the Watchet area of Somerset the day after Ms Faiers’ body was discovered.
His remains were discovered at a campsite in Watchet when a caravan was taken out of winter storage.
The inquest revealed that he was identified through fingerprint analysis, and his watch was set to British Summer Time, indicating he had died before March 31, 2024.
The post-mortem examination showed he was nearly completely mummified, with no evidence of injury or natural illness, although five rib fractures were observed.
The cause of death was listed as 'unascertained'.
