RICHARD RILEY SENTENCED TO NINE AND A HALF YEARS IN JAIL IN CHATHAM FOR HISTORICAL OFFENCES
A child rapist from Chatham has received a prison sentence of nine and a half years following convictions for past sexual abuse against children.Richard Riley, aged 66, of Kimberley Road, Stockwell, London, pleaded guilty to multiple historical child sex offences committed in both Chatham and London between 1982 and 1985.
He appeared in Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, October 22, where he admitted to four counts of raping a child under 16 and one count of indecent assault against a child under 16.
Riley was initially arrested on November 27 of the previous year and was subsequently charged.
As part of his sentence, he will be registered on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Detective Constable Rebecca Taft, who led the investigation, stated, "Riley has acted in an appalling manner over a number of years.
His actions have caused awful suffering and it is only right that he is to serve a substantial prison sentence.
I would like to commend the bravery of the victim who showed great courage in coming forward to report the abuse and help us bring this man to justice." An NSPCC spokesperson also commented, "Riley’s victim has shown incredible courage in speaking out about the abuse suffered at the hands of this predator.
No matter how long ago the abuse took place, without the right help and support, sexual abuse can ruin lives." In Kent, the NSPCC offers its Letting the Future service, providing support to survivors of child sexual abuse to aid their recovery.
