CARER JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULT ON DISABLED MAN
A former caregiver named Richard Pelling, responsible for looking after a man with cerebral palsy, was convicted of carrying out sexual misconduct against his patient, including indecent assault and a sexual act.Pelling faced a total of six charges, five of which were indecent assault and one was gross indecency.
He confessed to committing one indecent assault and the gross indecency but denied the other charges.
The case was tried at the Isle of Wight court, where Judge Richard Price emphasized that the matter was centered on a breach of trust rather than sexual preference.
The victim, whose identity remains protected by legal restrictions, was considered to have a mental age estimated between seven and ten years.
Consequently, his video testimony was deemed inadmissible in court.
At the time, Pelling was residing in Sandown, Isle of Wight.
He received a prison sentence of two years.
Authorities expressed contentment with this sentence, pointing out that the victim’s health has notably deteriorated following the assault.
