RICHARD OGLESBY'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN SUNDERLAND AND SOUTH SHIELDS REVEALED

In a series of disturbing incidents spanning several years, Richard Oglesby, a man with a long history of sexual offences involving minors, has once again found himself behind bars following a series of convictions related to child exploitation and possession of indecent images.

His criminal activities, which have taken place primarily in Sunderland and South Shields, have shocked the local communities and prompted serious legal repercussions.

Oglesby, now aged 27, has a troubling criminal record that includes previous convictions for sexual activity with a minor and multiple breaches of Sexual Harm Prevention Orders.

His latest offences came to light after police investigations uncovered indecent images of children on his mobile device, leading to his re-arrest and subsequent sentencing.

The case was brought before Newcastle Crown Court, where prosecutor Michael Bunch detailed the extent of Oglesby’s offences.

The police had seized his mobile phone during a search of his residence in Sunderland, specifically on Mackley Close, and examined its contents in November of the previous year.

The investigation revealed that the images found depicted children as young as three, with the majority estimated to be under ten years old.

The search terms used by Oglesby, including the word 'pre-teen,' indicated his intent and interest in exploiting minors.

Further examination of his online activity uncovered a disturbing pattern of communication with other online users, exchanging indecent images of children.

Oglesby, who has a total of six previous convictions, admitted to possessing prohibited images and sharing them in online chat rooms with other paedophiles.

These offences occurred between July 2014 and November 2016, a period during which he also engaged in grooming behaviour and attempted to meet children in person.

In one particularly alarming incident, Oglesby believed he was chatting with a 13-year-old girl named Hayley on the messaging platform Scout.

In 2017, he was convicted of attempting to meet a child after grooming her, and was sentenced to two years in prison.

The judge at the time described him as a “risk to underage girls.” Despite this, Oglesby’s criminal activities persisted.

In May 2017, he was caught trying to meet another child after engaging in online conversations that quickly turned sexual.

The Dark Justice online child protection group, which sets up fake profiles to catch predators, intercepted his communications.

Oglesby, from Sunderland, had initially claimed to be chatting with a girl named Hayley, but when confronted, he drove away from the meeting point.

The group tracked him to his home and provided evidence to the police, leading to his arrest and a subsequent two-year prison sentence, along with a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ten years on the sex offenders’ register.

Earlier, in February 2017, Oglesby was again caught by Dark Justice after sending messages to what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.

The group had set up a fake account, and Oglesby’s messages included sexual content, requests for photos, and questions about her virginity.

He also arranged to meet her in person, but was challenged by the group and police before the meeting could occur.

He was remanded in custody and faced charges of attempted grooming, which he later pleaded guilty to, with the court imposing a two-year sentence and strict conditions including a lifelong order and registration.

Oglesby’s criminal history also includes a 2011 conviction for sexual activity with a minor, which led to a court order requiring him to register as a sex offender.

Despite this, he failed to disclose his whereabouts and breached the order multiple times.

In 2013, he was given a suspended sentence after failing to inform his girlfriend of his past convictions, which allowed him to be alone with her children—an act that raised serious concerns about his risk to minors.

Most recently, in November 2013, Oglesby’s then-girlfriend, unaware of his past, left him alone with her three children in Sunderland.

It was only after rumours about his criminal background surfaced that authorities intervened.

He was found to have breached a sexual offences prevention order by having unsupervised contact with children and failing to update the police about his whereabouts, although no charges related directly to his conduct towards the children were brought.

In sentencing, Recorder Henry Prosser acknowledged the seriousness of Oglesby’s offences but also considered his age and guilty pleas.

He was given a four-month prison sentence suspended for two years, with supervision and rehabilitation requirements.

The judge issued a stern warning about the potential consequences of any future offending, emphasizing that any further sexual offences would result in a lengthy imprisonment.

Throughout these proceedings, Oglesby’s pattern of behaviour has demonstrated a persistent risk to minors, with authorities and courts taking a firm stance on his continued criminal conduct.

His case underscores the ongoing dangers posed by individuals with a history of child sexual offences and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting vulnerable children in Sunderland and South Shields.
