RICHARD GREEN SENTENCED IN ISLE OF WIGHT FOR MULTIPLE RAPE OFFENSES DURING THE 1990S
Richard Green, 48, currently detained at HMP Parkhurst on the Isle of Wight, has been sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison for a series of sexual assaults committed in the late 1990s.The victim, who came forward in 2012, reported that Green had abused her at their home in Chingford between 1997 and 1999.
At that time, she was just 19 years old and was raped four times; she also suffered false imprisonment, actual bodily harm (ABH), and a miscarriage.
Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that Green had prior convictions for rapes involving two other women, resulting in a ten-year prison sentence in 2000.
In 2012, he received a concurrent sentence of six years and three months after being found guilty of further rapes.
Green admitted to four counts of rape, multiple instances of false imprisonment, and ABH, leading to his sentencing last Friday.
Detective Constable Chris Sains, who led the investigation, stated, 'This is an historic case stemming back 20 years, but despite the length of time since the incidents Green has been convicted of his crimes.' He added, 'The victim has shown a great degree of courage, persistence and determination in securing the conviction, having persevered with the allegation and supporting the police investigation.' The detective emphasized the lasting trauma experienced by the victim, noting that she 'will have to live with these memories of the abuse for the rest of her life.' Green is described as a dangerous, controlling, and manipulative individual with a history of previous sexual crimes.
Authorities assert that he will remain in prison for a significant period, as his conduct warrants such custodial sentences.
Given his prior offenses, police underscore the possibility that there may be other victims and urge anyone who has been affected by Richard Green to contact law enforcement.
Officers equipped to support victims are available to assist those coming forward.
