Still working as a chef in Southend.  November 2009 Chef is jailed for sex attack on teenager in Shoebury A CHEF who dragged a schoolgirl into bushes before sexually assaulting her at gunpoint has been jailed for five years. Richard Gladwin, 21, carried out the horrific attack on the 14-year-old in Wakering Road, Shoebury, in the early hours of March 1. Andrew Jackson, prosecuting, said the girl and a 13-year-old friend were walking home. High on cannabis, Gladwin parked his car, then waited for them with a replica gun. When the two girls passed by, he got out of his car and followed them. He caught up and grabbed the girl before putting the muzzle of the gun to her head and saying: “Shut up, I’ve got a gun. Don’t say anything – don’t scream, don’t shout. The youngster was dragged into bushes. She thought she was being robbed, but was then sexually assaulted. The attack only stopped when the girl’s friend managed to flag down two women who were driving along the road and the headlights of their car scared Gladwin off. Gladwin was arrested in the area shortly afterwards. Mr Jackson said: “It is lucky these two women were passing and this attack was not much more serious.” Laureen Husain, mitigating, said Gladwin accepted his actions were “utterly despicable” and he was at a loss to explain his motives. Gladwin, of Avon Road, Southend, admitted false imprisonment, possession of an imitation firearm, and sexual assault at a hearing in August. At Basildon Crown Court, he was told he would be on licence for three years following his release from prison and that he will have to inform police of his whereabouts for the rest of his life.
