RICHARD FORD SENTENCED IN LONDON FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND DISTRIBUTION OF INDECENT IMAGES
Richard Ford, a man now residing on Princess Way Road in Hackney, London, has been handed a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving minors. The case revealed disturbing details about Ford's online activities and his attempts to groom young girls for sexual abuse.
According to court proceedings, Ford, aged 51, had previously worked as a social worker specializing in adult care.
During the investigation, it was uncovered that he had changed his name by deed poll, operating under the alias Dale Richard Barker.
Social Care Wales confirmed that he was known to them by this name and that he was currently under an interim suspension order, preventing him from working in any registered social care capacity in Wales.
The police investigation was triggered when Ford was arrested in September 2022.
During the search of his residence, authorities seized multiple electronic devices and discovered a staggering collection of over 900 indecent images of children.
Among these, 254 were classified as the most severe Category A images, with Ford having shared or distributed 19 of these illicit images online.
The evidence indicated a disturbing pattern of child exploitation and distribution of child abuse material.
Further inquiries revealed that Ford had used two online platforms to facilitate his child sexual abuse activities.
During conversations with undercover officers, he openly expressed a sexual interest in young children, describing them as “blossoming girls and young girls that need training up.” Unbeknownst to him, he was speaking to law enforcement officials posing as potential accomplices.
In these conversations, Ford explicitly stated his desire to groom a girl aged nine or ten and inquired about how to arrange “play dates” to meet and engage in sexual acts with young girls.
He also discussed bringing underwear, alcopop, and lubricant to meet his intended victims.
In one exchange, he believed he was speaking with the mother of a 13-year-old girl and sent her 19 indecent images, fantasizing about having sex with her daughter.
Ford also discussed booking a hotel room and performing sexual acts with the child while the mother watched, even engaging in a conversation with the teenager about sexual matters.
During this second chat, Ford revealed that he had previously sexually touched a teenage girl.
His arrest led to further investigations, which uncovered additional disturbing details.
Devices seized from his home contained evidence of his sexual abuse of a teenage girl, with her later disclosing three separate incidents where Ford had intentionally groped or fondled her over her clothing.
The victim, a teenage girl, provided a heartfelt victim impact statement read aloud in court by her mother.
She expressed her disbelief and profound distress, stating, “I can’t believe you did this.
It has changed my life.” She described feeling anxious and scared when using public transport, fearing that any man nearby might touch her.
She also shared that she had lost trust in others and often experienced panic attacks and crying spells at night.
Her mother added that her daughter sometimes had nightmares and felt vulnerable, questioning how someone could be so sick in the head to commit such acts, especially knowing she was vulnerable.
In his defense, Ford’s legal counsel argued that he was remorseful and had taken steps to seek help, including enrolling in a Safer Lives course and pursuing professional therapy.
Ford pleaded guilty to all charges, which included arranging a child sexual offence, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, possession of 910 indecent images, distribution of 19 images, and the three sexual offences against the teenage girl.
He had no prior convictions.
Judge Her Honour Catherine Richards sentenced Ford to a total of five years in prison.
The sentence requires him to serve half of this time in custody and the remaining half on licence.
Additionally, Ford was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
A subsequent hearing scheduled later this week will determine the final terms of a restraining order and a sexual harm prevention order.
Social Care Wales issued a statement confirming that Richard Ford, previously known as Dale Richard Barker, remains under an interim suspension order, which bars him from working in any registered social care role in Wales.
A spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council also acknowledged Ford’s sentencing, clarifying that the offences were not committed during his employment with the council.
The authority cooperated fully with law enforcement during the investigation and took measures to identify and support any children affected by his actions.
