In a case that has sparked widespread outrage and concern, Richard Findley, a teacher based in Bournemouth, was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate online conduct involving a minor. The incident came to light after Findley, who had been employed as a history teacher, was caught attempting to groom a 12-year-old girl through internet chatrooms, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.

Findley's actions came under scrutiny when it was revealed that he had pretended to be a teenage girl named Suzie in an online chat to lure the young girl into conversations. Unbeknownst to him, the girl was actually an undercover detective working for Scotland Yard’s paedophile unit. The investigation uncovered that Findley, a married man and father of three, had initiated this online grooming campaign in July of the previous year, just two months before he began his employment at St George’s School in Ascot, Berkshire. The school is located near Windsor Great Park, and Princess Beatrice attended this institution from 2000 until June of this year.

Princess Beatrice, who was head girl at the school during her time there, was informed of Findley's arrest in January as she was preparing to return from the Christmas holidays. It was during this period that Findley had begun sending sexually explicit messages to the girl via his mobile phone, raising serious concerns about his conduct and intentions. Friends of the princess expressed their shock and horror upon learning of the incident, noting that she had held Findley in high regard and had liked and respected him enormously. Findley's relationship with the princess, who is a member of the royal family, added a layer of public interest and concern to the case.
