April 2019 ‘I just despise the man’ – victim of this rapist speaks as he is locked up for 15 years A woman says the man who raped her and made her life a misery has shown ‘no remorse’ for what he has done. Jurors took just 45 minutes to find Richard Corney guilty of four counts of rape and two charges of both indecent assault and indecency with a child when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on Thursday, April 4. The 51-year-old from Cornwell Way, Ruskington, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for life. Corney, who had worked at a local bakery for over 20 years, was portrayed as a family man in his defence, but this was denied by witnesses and the prosecution described how Corney had sexually assaulted a girl on several occasions when she was between the ages of 13 and 15. The court had heard that Corney had filmed the acts on a video camera in a premeditated act. His victim said she ‘despises’ the man who put her through hell – but said a weight has finally been lifted now justice has been served. The woman, who has been kept anonymous for legal reasons, said: “It has never been about how long he got in jail, I just wanted to be believed. “When the verdict came in there was a huge weight removed off of me. “I have had mental health problems for many years, which I have been on medication for – I spent a long time self-harming.” She added: “I just despise the man – he has no remorse, it is like he doesn’t believe he’s done what he has done.“
