RICHARD BROOK: MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ASSAULTING WIFE AT BATLEY HOME

A woman suffered a head wound when her husband attacked her at their home, a court heard.

Blood from Lyndsay Brook’s injury ran onto the carpet after she hit a door during the assault.

Richard Brook, of Bennett Lane, Batley, pleaded guilty to the offence on March 26.

Jill Seddon, prosecuting, told Kirklees Magistrates’ Court that in the early hours Mrs Brook had gone up to bed following an argument with her husband.

She said: “The defendant went upstairs, pulled the quilt cover from her and told her to sleep in the spare room.

She continued to swear at her, calling her offensive names.

“At some point she stood up and he forcibly pushed her backwards.

She fell into the door and struck her head, causing a three inch cut to the back of her head.

Mrs Brook was bleeding from the head injury onto the carpet.

Paul Blanchard, mitigating, said that his client had an issue with anger.

He added: “He accepts it’s behaviour that’s unacceptable in a relationship.” The court was told that there had been tensions between the 46-year-old and his wife over money.

District Judge David Purcell sentenced brook to a community order with 30 days of rehabilitative activities and 200 hours of unpaid work.

He must pay £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
