RICHARD BARLOW'S SHOCKING CRIME INVOLVING MINORS AT MANSFIELD FESTIVAL

In a disturbing series of events, Richard Barlow, a music instructor from Mansfield, was convicted of heinous crimes involving two underage girls during a Music Festival at the Coney Grey Showground in Pentrich, a location near Belper in Derbyshire.

The incident took place amid a backdrop of a well-known annual event—the Rock and Blues Festival—held at this site.

This festival typically spans a single weekend each year and attracts numerous attendees, but this year's proceedings were marred by the grave criminal behavior of Barlow.

Barlow, aged 39 at the time of his sentencing, had previously operated Instru-Tech Ltd, a business based in Mansfield.

His criminal actions included illicit drugging and sexual assault of two vulnerable girls who were under the age of consent.

The court proceedings revealed that Barlow supplied the minors with drugs—specifically cocaine—before subjecting them to sexual acts in a makeshift tent at the festival grounds.

It was detailed that one of the victims experienced the drugs' effects immediately, as she was unfamiliar with the substance, leading to a brief state of stupefaction.

The assaults involved horrifying acts, including Barlow undressing both girls and engaging in non-consensual vaginal penetration, an act described in court as having “elements of real wickedness.” The judge presiding over the case, Recorder Michael Auty QC, commented on the troubling nature of these offenses, noting that the drug administration indicated a deliberate and calculated approach by Barlow, who appeared to have given some thought to his actions.

The vulnerabilities of the victims—due to their age—were emphasized by the judge, underscoring the predatory nature of Barlow’s conduct.

During the sentencing, the court heard from the victims, who displayed remarkable resilience in coming forward and sharing their experiences.

Recorder Auty expressed hope for their futures, acknowledging their strength, and wished them well as they attempt to rebuild their lives amid the trauma inflicted upon them.

Barlow was found to possess indecent images of children in his possession, adding to the severity of his crimes.

He faced a total of eight charges related to sexual activity with minors and the possession of illicit images.

The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison, a reflection of the seriousness of his offenses.

Formerly residing in Mansfield, Barlow is now without a fixed address, having been taken into custody prior to sentencing.

Sarah Phelan, the defense representative, acknowledged the gravity of the punishment, stating that Barlow understands he will spend a significant period in custody.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Detective Constable Richard Howe commented publicly on the case, emphasizing that Barlow exploited girls considerably younger than himself and was fully aware that his actions were wrongful but continued regardless.

He further praised the courage of the victims who, despite immense personal pain, demonstrated dignity throughout the legal process.

The officer expressed satisfaction that Barlow’s crimes have been publicly exposed, serving as a stark reminder to others who might consider abusing children—that such behavior will ultimately lead to justice.

The case sends a powerful message that police investigations and court proceedings can and will uncover misconduct, ensuring offenders are held accountable.

This troubling case has cast a shadow over what is generally regarded as a community-oriented festival, raising concerns about safeguarding at such events and the importance of vigilant monitoring to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
