Richard Dobinson, a man born in June 1985 and residing at Burnsall Grange in the Armley district of Leeds LS12, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of violent acts that included both domestic abuse and animal cruelty. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of violence that spanned over a period of time, culminating in a particularly heinous incident involving his former partner's dog.

On August 15, 2022, Dobinson carried out a vicious attack on an unnamed dog in Armley. Witnesses and court testimonies detailed how he kicked the animal in the stomach, causing the dog to cry out in pain. The assault did not stop there; Dobinson then forcibly lifted the dog by its shoulders and threw it onto the concrete ground. The impact resulted in the dog losing two of its front teeth and suffering significant damage to its gums. The severity of the injuries underscored the cruelty of the attack, which was part of a broader campaign of violence against his former partner.

Dobinson had been involved in a tumultuous relationship with the woman since 2021. During this period, she endured multiple episodes of domestic violence, which the court described as relentless and severe. One such incident occurred on May 1, 2022, when Dobinson and the woman argued. During the altercation, he grabbed her by the neck and threw her across a room, causing bruising to her hip and making it difficult for her to breathe. The court also heard that on another occasion, Dobinson strangled her to the point where she was unable to breathe. As she struggled to recover and get to her feet, Dobinson headbutted her, resulting in a cut on her nose. Despite her injuries and her desire to seek medical treatment, Dobinson prevented her from doing so, further illustrating the controlling and violent nature of his conduct.

In court, Dobinson admitted to multiple charges, including common assault, actual bodily harm, strangulation, and animal cruelty. His criminal record was also discussed, revealing previous convictions related to alcohol abuse and temper issues. There was evidence of past offending involving a previous partner, indicating a pattern of violent behavior.

Following the sentencing, Dobinson was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Additionally, an indefinite restraining order was issued to protect the woman from further contact or harassment. The case highlights the ongoing issues of domestic violence and animal cruelty, emphasizing the importance of legal action to protect victims and prevent future harm.
