RHYSS LAWS SENTENCED IN NORTHUMBERLAND FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND MORE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Northumberland, 25-year-old Rhyss Laws was found guilty of multiple serious offenses, including a sexual assault that took place in Ashington on November 19, 2024.The incident involved Laws attempting to persuade a teenage girl to engage in sexual activity, only to escalate the situation by using force and exposing himself at an address in Ashington.
The victim managed to escape from Laws, and she reported the assault to Northumbria Police the following day, sparking a thorough investigation into the matter.
Following his guilty plea at Newcastle Crown Court last month, Laws, who resides at Storey Crescent, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, was sentenced to 45 months in prison.
The court also ordered that Laws be registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the potential risk he poses to the community.
In addition to the sexual assault and exposure charges, Laws admitted to committing a series of other offenses in the Teesside area.
These included dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance, and criminal damage.
These charges paint a troubling picture of Laws’ pattern of reckless and dangerous behavior.
It is noteworthy that Laws has a prior criminal history, having previously been jailed for sexual assault and assault following a street attack on a woman in Ashington in October 2017.
This history underscores concerns about his ongoing threat to public safety.
Detective Inspector Andrew Doyle of Northumbria Police expressed his views on the case, stating, “Laws is a dangerous predator and our communities are undoubtedly a safer place as a result of this sentence.
The victim was subjected to a terrifying ordeal, and I hope this process gives her the closure she needs to start to move on with her life.
We hope this sentence sends a clear message to victims.
You will be listened to, you will be supported, and we will do everything in our power to secure justice on your behalf.”
