RENE SEREN FROM RISCA AND DAT JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON YOUNG BOY

A 77-year-old man from Risca has been sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of indecent assault against a young boy.

Rene Seren-Dat, whose criminal history includes previous convictions related to sexual activity with children, was found guilty by a jury earlier this year following a detailed trial.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Seren-Dat exploited the child's vulnerable state following the death of his grandparent.

He took advantage of the boy’s emotional distress and trust, engaging in inappropriate conduct that led to his conviction.

The court heard that Seren-Dat took the young boy on trips to Newport, during which he committed the indecent acts.

Furthermore, Seren-Dat falsely claimed to be an ordained minister, using this deception to manipulate and gain the child's trust.

His actions were described as exploitative, with the court emphasizing his grooming behaviour and continued risk to children.

In addition to his prison sentence, the judge imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order on Seren-Dat, restricting his contact with minors and monitoring his activities.

He is also required to register as a lifetime sex offender, reflecting the serious nature of his offences and the ongoing threat he poses.

The judge condemned Seren-Dat’s conduct, highlighting the calculated manner in which he exploited the trust placed in him by the young victim and his family.

The case underscores the importance of vigilance and safeguarding measures to protect vulnerable children from predators like Seren-Dat.
