REGNORICUS SHANMUGAM FROM HAYES AND SOUTHALL JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing issue of child exploitation online, Regnoricus Shanmugam, a resident of Southall, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing a vast collection of illegal images depicting children. The investigation into Shanmugam’s activities began in December 2016 when police, acting on intelligence, identified an individual using the internet at an address on Chaucer Avenue in Hayes to download indecent images of minors. When officers arrived at the property on that day, they found Shanmugam present. He immediately confessed to police at a South London station that he had been downloading these illicit images. This initial arrest marked the start of a lengthy legal process that would uncover the extent of his crimes.
Following his arrest, Shanmugam was released on bail, with strict conditions imposed upon him. He was ordered to return to the police station in October 2017 and was prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 18. Additionally, he was required to report to the police once a week to monitor his activities and ensure compliance with the bail conditions.
Despite these restrictions, the Metropolitan Police later discovered that Shanmugam continued to access and download child abuse images. The police investigation intensified, leading to a raid on January 12, during which three devices containing memory cards were seized from his residence. Forensic analysis of these devices confirmed that he had been actively downloading indecent images since his initial arrest in October 2016.
As a result of these findings, Shanmugam faced multiple charges. On the day of his arrest in January 2018, he was formally charged with three counts of distributing indecent images of children and three counts of making indecent photographs of a child. The case proceeded swiftly, and he was remanded into custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court the following day.
He later appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on June 11, where he pleaded guilty to all charges. The court’s judgment was delivered on July 2, with Shanmugam receiving a sentence of three years in prison, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing efforts to combat online child exploitation.
