MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THREATS TO EX-PARTNER
An abusive thug repeatedly attacked his ex-partner, twice strangling her and even threatening to ‘violate her’ - she was left fearing for her life.Reginaldo Mapana, 28, constantly accused the woman of infidelity and launched violent, unprovoked assaults on her.
The court heard that the couple met five years ago and had an on-off relationship that grew abusive due to Mapana’s drinking habits.
One incident in August involved him playing loud music at her home, refusing to turn it down, and then pulling her to the floor, attempting to strangle her, spitting in her face, and kicking her twice in the head as she tried to escape.
Mapana assaulted her further by calling her offensive names, including a slur.
Despite the couple’s breakup and her blocking him on social media, he managed to contact her and rekindled the relationship.
During Christmas, he turned up drunk at her mother’s house, made threats, and sent her frightening messages via Snapchat threatening to violate her.
Fearful for her safety, she reported the incidents to police, describing feeling scared and like she was ‘walking on eggshells’.
The court also heard he had six prior convictions for 11 offenses, including criminal damage and battery, and was on a community order at the time.
The final violent incident occurred in August when he showed up at her house, searched her home, assaulted her by slapping her, sitting on her and squeezing her throat, and calling her offensive names again, causing her to feel she was going to die.
She managed to fight him off and contact police, leading to his arrest.
Mapana was sentenced to 28 months in prison and was subjected to a restraining order banning him from contacting his former partner until further notice.
The judge emphasized the severity of the threats and violence, stating that the victim believed she was going to die and described the attack as a prolonged, degrading assault against a vulnerable woman.
