Oldham Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that shocked the community of Oldham, Reger Salah, a 25-year-old man from Hulme Street in the Coppice area, has been sentenced to two years in prison following his conviction for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl with learning difficulties. The incident, which took place on March 13, 2005, has left many residents deeply concerned about the safety of vulnerable children in the region.

According to court records, Salah pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court to charges of abduction and sexual activity with a minor. The case revealed that the young girl, who was known to have learning difficulties, had wandered out of her home alone, prompting a large-scale police search that lasted for approximately 30 hours. During this time, authorities launched an extensive investigation, which eventually led to her being found by a motorist along a roadside in Oldham.

The police investigation uncovered that Salah had lured the girl from a local park, where he had taken her to his flat. It was there that he committed the sexual assault. The victim’s family reported her missing after she failed to return home, sparking widespread concern and a community-wide effort to locate her. The discovery of the girl by the roadside was a relief, but the subsequent court proceedings revealed the gravity of Salah’s actions.

Salah, who is a failed asylum seeker originally from the Kurdish region of Iraq, claimed during the court proceedings that the girl had initiated the sexual activity, a statement that was strongly contested by the prosecution. His guilty plea included charges of sexual activity with a child and abduction. The judge, William Morris, emphasized the vulnerability of the victim, acknowledging that she was a girl with her own difficulties and of some vulnerability.

As part of his sentence, Salah was not only jailed for two years but also received an indefinite ban from working with children. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to protect children from predators. The case has raised awareness about the importance of safeguarding vulnerable minors and the need for vigilance within communities like Oldham, where such incidents can have far-reaching impacts.
