EX-NOTTINGHAMSHIRE FOOTBALLER REECE THOMPSON SENT BACK TO PRISON AFTER CONVICTION FOR GBH AND ASSAULT
An ex-footballer who used to play for a Nottinghamshire side has been recalled to prison.The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that former Retford United star Reece Thompson has been recalled to jail to serve the rest of his sentence after he was convicted for assault and GBH of his former partner Danielle Thomas.
Thompson has posted inappropriate tweets concerning his conviction and spoke to a national news website about his bid to find a new club.
He previously pleaded guilty to damaging property, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and inflicting grievous bodily harm, and was sentenced to 40 months in prison with a 10-year restraining order.
He signed with Mickleover Sports FC in the BetVictor Northern Premier Division after making his appeal to find a new club.
Thompson stated: "I love playing football it’s my life.
I’ve made a mistake and been punished for it.
Now it’s time for me to move on and rebuild my life." He responded to a tweet from a fan about redecoration with a disturbing reply: "Pretty sure from post examination no paint or other substances were found in the persons stomach/system," which he used to dismiss concerns about a previous incident involving an iron bar.
He also posted messages about his intention to make a comeback despite public hate and called himself a "scumbag," asserting that only his own opinion matters and everyone else is irrelevant.
Thompson expressed motivation to prove doubters wrong.
Reece Thompson was previously convicted at Nottingham Crown Court on April 3, 2019, for damaging property, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and grievous bodily harm.
He has now been sentenced to 40 months in prison and given a 10-year restraining order.
