REECE FORD'S HORRIFIC CHILD SEX CRIMES IN EDINBURGH - 10 YEAR SENTENCE FOR ABUSE OF YOUNG VICTIMS
In a deeply disturbing case that has shocked the community of Edinburgh, Reece Ford, a 23-year-old man, has been sentenced to ten years in prison after admitting to the repeated sexual abuse of two young children under his care. The heinous acts took place over a period spanning from January to October of the previous year, with Ford abusing a three-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl in a residential setting.
Ford, who was entrusted with the responsibility of looking after the children at a house in Edinburgh, betrayed that trust in the most grievous manner.
The court heard that between seven and ten separate incidents of abuse occurred, with Ford admitting to the court that his actions were driven by sexual gratification.
The abuse was not only persistent but also escalated in severity over time, causing profound trauma to the victims and their families.
During the proceedings at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Pentland addressed Ford directly, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes.
Ford pleaded guilty to the charges, which included the repeated rape of both children.
The judge highlighted that Ford had been assessed as posing a high risk of reoffending and appeared to have a sexual attraction to prepubescent children, a factor that significantly influenced the severity of the sentence.
Lord Pentland expressed his condemnation of Ford’s actions, noting that the victims’ impact statements revealed the devastating effects of the abuse.
The court was told that the children’s mother had placed her trust in Ford, a trust that he callously betrayed.
The judge remarked that society holds an intense abhorrence for the sexual exploitation of children and that such crimes warrant severe punishment.
In his sentencing remarks, Lord Pentland stated that if the case had gone to trial, he would have imposed a sentence of 15 years.
However, considering Ford’s early guilty plea, the sentence was reduced to ten years, with an additional three years of supervised release to ensure public safety.
Ford was also ordered to remain on the sex offenders’ register for life, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.
The court detailed that Ford had earlier admitted to raping the boy between March and October of the previous year, as well as engaging in sexual acts and raping the girl during the same period.
The judge underscored that Ford’s conduct was a gross breach of trust, especially given the young ages of his victims and the penetrative nature of the abuse.
The case was described as a cumulo sentence, combining charges on the indictment, and was influenced by Ford’s guilty plea and the circumstances of the case.
In closing, Lord Pentland emphasized that society’s moral stance against child sexual abuse must be reflected in the court’s sentencing.
Despite Ford’s lack of prior convictions and his personal difficulties, the court found that these factors did not mitigate the severity of his crimes.
The judge concluded that an extended custodial sentence was necessary to protect the public from further harm, especially given the high risk of reoffending and the nature of the offenses committed in Edinburgh.
