REBECCA JOYNES FROM MANCHESTER GUILTY OF SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST TEEN BOYS

Update 24/12/2025: A Teaching Regulation Agency panel banned Joyner from teaching indefinitely.

A representative of the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), told the panel Joynes' convictions were 'of the utmost severity' and the offences were a 'breach of trust'.

———————————————————————— Rebecca Joynes, born on December 30, 1993, and residing on Waterman Walk in Salford, has been found guilty by a majority verdict at Manchester Crown Court on Friday, May 17, 2024, of committing six serious sexual offences involving two underage boys.

Joynes was initially detained on October 18, 2021, on suspicion of engaging in sexual activities with a minor.

Following her arrest, she faced charges encompassing six counts of sexual misconduct—specifically, four counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of sexual activity with a minor by a person in a position of trust.

The court proceedings revealed that Joynes, who was employed as a teacher at a school in Greater Manchester, had initiated contact with two teenage boys, both of whom are protected by legal restrictions from being publicly identified.

Evidence presented during the trial detailed how Joynes groomed one of her pupils by taking him on outings to the Trafford Centre, a popular shopping destination in Manchester.

During these visits, she purchased him a Gucci belt valued at £345.

Subsequently, she engaged in sexual activity with him at her flat.

Following these incidents, Joynes was suspended from her teaching position.

It was also uncovered that she became pregnant with a second boy, whom she had met when he was 15 years old.

Despite her suspension and the ongoing investigation into her conduct with the first victim, Joynes maintained contact with the second boy through social media, even though there was a clear ban on her contacting individuals under the age of 18.

Joynes claimed that her sexual encounters with the second boy occurred only after she had been dismissed from her teaching role.

She also asserted that she became pregnant despite previously telling the boy that conception was 'almost impossible' due to a health condition.

The boy was reportedly shocked to learn of her pregnancy after she presented him with a baby grow.

The child was subsequently taken from her custody during an emergency court hearing just 24 hours after her delivery.

The court is expected to determine her sentencing at a later date.

Detective Constable Beth Alexander, from the Child Protection Investigation Unit in Salford, expressed her gratitude to the victims and their families for their bravery in coming forward.

She emphasized that Joynes, as a former teacher, exploited the trust placed in her to groom and abuse two vulnerable teenagers.

DC Alexander stated, “Rebecca Joynes is a sexual predator.

She was their teacher and they rightfully put their trust in her.

But Joynes decided to abuse her position and used it to groom two teenagers.

We welcome today’s verdict and now wait for Joynes to face the consequences for her actions.” She also thanked the officers and investigation team for their dedication and hard work in uncovering the full extent of the case.

The victims and their families have requested privacy moving forward, wishing to focus on healing and moving past this traumatic experience.
