RAZZAQ LATIF FROM PETERBOROUGH SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE CASE
In a case that has shocked the community of Peterborough, Razzaq Latif, a 32-year-old man residing on Welland Road, has been handed a severe prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving a young girl. The court proceedings revealed that Latif was responsible for nine separate counts of child rape, crimes that spanned over a period of five years and involved a victim who was only six years old at the start of the abuse.
Latif's arrest took place in February 2017, during an investigation into another matter, when police officers uncovered allegations against him.
The details of the case, presented during an eight-day trial held in March at Peterborough Crown Court, painted a disturbing picture of sustained abuse.
Despite his denial of the nine charges of raping a child under 13, the jury found him guilty on all counts.
On Thursday afternoon, May 3, the court sentenced Latif to 22 years in prison for each of the nine charges, with all sentences to run concurrently.
This means he will serve the same lengthy term for each conviction, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
In addition to his imprisonment, Latif was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that will remain in effect indefinitely, restricting his contact with the victim and others.
Furthermore, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further harm.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Peterborough, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the justice system’s role in protecting vulnerable children from such horrific acts.
