ELDERLY MAN JAILED FOR REPEATED ASSAULT ON DEMENTIA SUFFERER
Raymond Collie, a 72-year-old pensioner, was found guilty of repeatedly sexually assaulting a dementia-affected woman in her 80s.The court evidence showed Collie touching the woman during visits to her home, where he was caught on CCTV footage.
The footage revealed Collie kneeling and sexually assaulting the woman, including touching her breast under her clothing multiple times between September 10 and September 15 of the previous year.
The woman's son discovered this evidence after installing a CCTV camera, which showed Collie kneeling in front of his mother and having his hand under her clothing.
The son reported these incidents to the police after viewing the footage.
Collie was arrested on September 16, 2020, after being cautioned by police.
During police interviews, he claimed to have only touched her to 'console' her when she was upset and stated, 'I knew she wasn’t into it, but she never said no.' He also said he had been helping her by making tea and that he knew she was not into his actions but claimed she never said no.
Collie admitted to touching her on more than one occasion.
The court heard how Collie’s actions were predatory and deeply disturbing.
Sheriff Richard McFarlane deferred the sentence to await reports and placed Collie on the sex offenders register.
Collie was from Glebe Land, Kirkton of Skene, and was sentenced as a sex offender.
