LONDON MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC RAPE AFTER FIGHTING DEPORTATION
A man named Ramzi Borkan, aged 36, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for committing a brutal rape involving a student in London.Borkan, originally from Kurdistan, had previously been jailed for groping a 14-year-old girl and had a history of violent behavior.
The court heard that he managed to escape deportation by claiming his homeland was too violent, and he first came to Britain on a bogus Indian passport in 1992.
Borkan convinced a young woman to return to his flat in Ladbroke Grove, west London, in December, where he attacked her twice and even filmed part of the assault on his mobile phone.
Judge David Martineau described him as posing a significant risk of serious harm to young women, stating, "I regard you as posing a significant risk of serious harm to young women.
There must therefore be a sentence of imprisonment for public protection." The court also discussed Borkan's failed attempts at deportation, noting that he successfully appealed against the Home Office's decision to return him to Iraq, citing human rights concerns.
His criminal history includes attacking a 14-year-old girl on a school trip in 1997, followed by breaking into a former lover's flat, threatening her and her new partner with a knife, and imprisoning them, which led to a two-year jail sentence and recommendations for deportation.
Despite this, he was released in August of the previous year after successfully invoking human rights arguments to avoid deportation to Iraq, which the court described as a country torn by violence.
His past includes earlier violent offenses, mental health treatment, and legal appeals aimed at avoiding removal from the UK.
