Renfrew Rapist
A man from Renfrew, Ramsay Morris, aged 30, has been handed a significant prison sentence after a series of heinous sexual offences spanning nearly a decade. The conviction follows a lengthy investigation that uncovered Morris's disturbing pattern of predatory behavior against multiple victims in both Renfrew and Glasgow. Today, at the High Court in Glasgow, Morris was sentenced via video link from custody to serve a total of seven years behind bars for his crimes, which included the rape of young women, one of whom was unconscious at the time of the assault.

In addition to the rape charges, Morris was found guilty of engaging in lewd and libidinous conduct towards a 14-year-old girl, as well as sexual assaults on three other young women. The offences took place over a period from 2009 to 2018, with incidents occurring in both Renfrew and Glasgow. The court heard that Morris's criminal activities were not isolated but part of a disturbing pattern of sexual violence that left lasting scars on his victims.

During the proceedings, Judge William Gallacher addressed the court and emphasized the gravity of Morris's actions. He revealed that he had considered imposing an Order for Lifelong Restriction, a measure reserved for the most serious offenders, but ultimately decided on a seven-year sentence. The judge stated, "I have had the opportunity of reading victim impact statements, which are brief but very clear as to the consequences for them. I have not found this an easy case to address due to your behaviour over a period of time. This involved so many different people in a variety of contexts together with what I understand are your personal circumstances. It is clear from what I have read – and from my judicial experience – that those who you abused, raped and offended against will also bear the marks and scars for the rest of their lives."

Following his sentencing, Morris will be supervised for an additional five years after his release, and his name will remain on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes. The court detailed some of the specific incidents, including the first known abuse of a teenage girl in Renfrew, which Morris recorded on his mobile phone. He later threatened to delete the footage unless the girl complied with further demands. His criminal activities extended to Glasgow city centre, where he sexually assaulted a woman at the Cineworld cinema, and to a flat in Renfrew, where he raped another teenage girl. Morris also attacked two young women at a bar in Glasgow's West End before committing his final known offence at an undisclosed address in Renfrew, where he hit a woman’s head against a wall, rendering her unconscious before sexually assaulting her.

In September 2019, Morris was convicted of multiple sex offences, including the rape of a 15-year-old girl, which he claimed was motivated by a desire for "five minutes of fun." At that time, his legal representative described him as an "expert mixologist" of cocktail drinks, a detail that drew some attention during the case. Despite his previous conviction, Morris maintains his innocence in the latest proceedings. His defense lawyer, Sean Templeton, stated that his client is now "a different man," although the court and the victims continue to grapple with the profound impact of his actions.
