BELFAST MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED VOYEURISM SEEKS TO DISMISS CASE
Ralph Caldwell, aged 41, is currently under prosecution in Belfast for allegations involving attempted voyeurism. He is accused of attempting to operate recording devices underneath clothing worn by unidentified females.
Caldwell, who resides on Jerusalem Street in Belfast, is facing a total of 14 charges, including one charge of voyeurism and 13 counts of attempted voyeurism.
The case was scheduled for preliminary hearing at Belfast Magistrates' Court where Caldwell's legal team announced his intention to contest the evidence against him, claiming that videos suspected to have been taken by Caldwell were either accidental or for artistic purposes, and that he had no intent to obtain sexual gratification.
Caldwell was arrested after videos and images were purportedly recovered from his mobile phone, with reports indicating the recordings were made at various locations including bus stops, shops, and streets within Belfast during April and May of the previous year.
He has denied any malicious intent related to pornography or upskirting, asserting that he was unaware of any wrongdoing.
The proceedings have been adjourned for two weeks as his defense prepares to challenge the case, with the court planning to schedule a contested hearing.
This case highlights the ongoing issues regarding voyeurism and the use of recording devices without consent, with Caldwell's lawyer asserting that the case is to be challenged at a preliminary stage to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed further.
The case continues to be under investigation, and Caldwell's future legal outcome remains pending.
