RAJ BRETT FROM LUTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND BREACHES IN SUFFOLK
Raj Brett, a registered sex offender residing in Luton, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children and breaching a sexual harm prevention order. The case highlights ongoing concerns about his conduct and the measures in place to prevent reoffending.
According to court reports, Brett, aged 39, was found to have violated the conditions of his sexual harm prevention order, which explicitly prohibited him from owning electronic devices capable of accessing the internet without prior police approval.
Despite these restrictions, Brett was discovered to possess unauthorized devices, including a laptop and a mobile phone, which had not been declared to authorities.
The investigation into Brett’s activities intensified after authorities became increasingly suspicious of his behavior.
Over a period of six months, officers from Bedfordshire Police’s Offender Management Unit (OMU) attempted to establish contact with him, but Brett became progressively uncooperative and hostile.
His refusal to engage raised alarms among investigators, who feared he might reoffend.
In November 2020, during a routine visit to Brett’s residence in High Town, Luton, police officers attempted to gain entry but were met with resistance.
Brett refused to allow them access, prompting officers to obtain a warrant.
Once inside, they discovered a laptop and a phone, neither of which Brett had declared.
A forensic examination of the devices uncovered two indecent images of children, along with evidence that Brett had attempted to conceal his activities by using multiple hard drives and software designed to erase his internet history.
During police interviews, Brett displayed a dismissive attitude, laughing when confronted with the evidence.
He claimed that one of the hard drives had been left at his home two days earlier by a friend, and when asked about this acquaintance, Brett stated that the friend had since died.
These claims were not substantiated, and the investigation continued.
Following the findings, Brett was brought before Luton Crown Court, where he refused to attend the hearing.
The court sentenced him to three and a half years in prison on February 15.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Brett will remain on the sex offenders register and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order upon his release, ensuring ongoing restrictions on his activities.
Deborah Simpson, the investigating officer, expressed her concerns about Brett’s attitude and behavior.
She stated, “It is clear that Brett has absolutely no regard for the police, nor the court and the measures put in place to prevent his vile reoffending.
He is a persistent sex offender who consistently sought to operate in the shadows.
Brett no doubt would have continued to access indecent content for his own disturbing sexual gratification.
I would like to thank the court for imposing a custodial sentence, which I hope sends a strong message to those that refuse to adhere to strict orders that aim to keep our community safe.”
