RAHEEM RAHMAN AND SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN STAFFORDSHIRE AND CONGLETON
A man from Staffordshire has been sentenced to three years in prison after engaging in a disturbing case of grooming and sexual assault involving a teenage girl in Congleton.Raheem Rahman, aged 23 and residing on Andrew Mulligan Close in Tunstall, was convicted of several serious offenses related to the exploitation of a minor.
The incident came to light after Rahman had been actively messaging his young victim through the Snapchat application, establishing a line of communication with her that ultimately led to a planned meeting.
On Monday, January 23, Rahman arranged to meet the girl in Congleton.
Early that morning, around 8:10 AM, he picked her up in his car and drove her to a secluded country lane, believed to be located in the Astbury area.
Reports indicate that once they arrived at this isolated spot, Rahman stopped the vehicle and subjected the girl to a sexual assault.
Following the assault, Rahman drove the girl back to Congleton, where she was likely returned to her normal environment.
The case was significantly aided by local surveillance footage, specifically Ring doorbell recordings, which played a crucial role in identifying the vehicle Rahman was operating at the time.
Thanks to this evidence, authorities swiftly apprehended Rahman later that same day at his place of employment in Congleton.
During police interviews, Rahman initially admitted to having conversations with the girl via Snapchat, but he denied any sexual contact.
He claimed that he had simply picked her up and later dropped her off at her school.
However, after further investigation, Rahman ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of grooming and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
The sentencing took place at Chester Crown Court on Friday, June 30, where Rahman was formally sentenced to serve three years in prison.
Additionally, the court imposed a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect indefinitely, as part of measures to protect the public from future harm.
Furthermore, Rahman is now required to register as a sex offender for life, a restriction designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.
A restraining order was also issued to prevent any contact with the victim.
In commenting on the case, Detective Sergeant Simon Mills of Cheshire Police's Eastern Crime Unit expressed appreciation for the victim’s bravery in coming forward.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the victim for her bravery throughout this investigation, and we hope this case encourages other victims of sexual offences to come forward,” he stated.
He emphasized that Rahman was fully aware of the girl’s age but chose to act on his intentions anyway.
Sergeant Mills also issued a stark warning about the dangers posed by social media platforms, highlighting how Rahman used these online tools to groom and exploit his victim.
“Rahman met his victim online and purposefully used social media as a tool to groom the girl before taking advantage of her,” he added.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to thoroughly investigating all reports of sexual misconduct, underscoring that no case would be taken lightly and that justice is a priority in their efforts to protect the community.
