RACHEL FENTON AND CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MANCHESTER
Rachel Fenton, who was previously known as Richard Fenton, was sentenced to a decade in prison following a conviction related to numerous disturbing crimes involving children and drug offences. The court documented that Fenton, aged 45, pleaded guilty to a total of 21 child sex offences along with a related drug offence.
These included seven counts of attempting to persuade a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered a significant amount of indecent images of children stored on Fenton’s electronic devices.
The evidence included a large collection of photographs depicting child sexual abuse, highlighting the severity and depravity of his actions.
The case revealed that even while Fenton was under police bail, he continued to pursue illicit content involving minors.
He engaged in online efforts to obtain indecent images, attempting to contact minors through profiles that falsely claimed to be children.
Notably, two separate incidents involved individuals posing as minors—one part of a vigilante group and the other a police operative—both of whom Fenton attempted to lure into sexual activities.
Fenton’s criminal activities came to light following his arrest.
The first arrest took place in November 2020 at an address in Wythenshawe, Manchester, where he was detained on suspicion of arranging a child sexual offence.
At that time, authorities also suspected him of possessing a class A controlled drug and cannabis.
His second arrest occurred in January 2021, linked to a series of sex offences.
Manchester Evening News reported on the case, emphasizing the gravity of Fenton’s crimes.
Detective Constable Ceri Martin, a member of GMP’s Sexual Crime Unit, described Fenton’s conduct as “deplorable and completely unacceptable.” Martin stated, “Fenton is a paedophile who knowingly attempted to exploit children for his own sexual gratification.” The police official underscored the commitment of Greater Manchester Police to protect children and to uphold justice.
“This behaviour is not only deeply disturbing but also unacceptable,” Martin affirmed.
“The safety of our children remains our highest priority and we hope that the sentencing today sends a clear message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.
GMP is dedicated to thoroughly investigating all cases of this nature and bringing offenders to justice.” In court, Fenton, of Wythenshawe, admitted guilt to 21 counts related to child sexual abuse.
These included seven counts of attempting to incite a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, five counts of attempting to do so, one count of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and two additional charges of attempting to facilitate sexual activity with a minor.
As part of his sentencing, Fenton was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, and he was also mandated to sign the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his actions to protect the community from further harm.
