QUYUM MIAH SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR BRUTAL MURDER IN LONDON'S BETHNAL GREEN AND PLAISTOW

Quyum Miah, a 41-year-old man from London, has been handed a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his wife, Yasmin Begum, at her residence in Bethnal Green.

The court proceedings revealed that Miah meticulously planned the attack, which culminated in a violent assault that resulted in her death.

The investigation uncovered CCTV footage linking him directly to the crime scene, ultimately leading to his arrest.

Yasmin Begum, aged 40, was discovered collapsed inside her home on 24 March 2022.

Concerned school staff had noticed her failure to pick up her children, prompting a welfare check that uncovered her tragic fate.

She had been subjected to multiple stab wounds, and her belongings, including her bank card and jewelry, had been stolen in the aftermath of the attack.

The brutality of the assault and the theft underscored the violent nature of the crime.

In the days following the murder, Miah exploited Yasmin’s bank card to withdraw £800 in cash.

Additionally, he pawned two pieces of her jewelry, which fetched approximately £200.

His actions indicated a clear motive of financial gain.

Miah was apprehended at an address in Plaistow on 27 March 2022, where investigators recovered items stained with Yasmin’s blood, providing crucial physical evidence linking him to the scene.

During the court hearing, it was disclosed that Miah had a troubling history of stealing from his wife to support his heroin addiction.

This pattern of behavior was seen as a contributing factor to the tragic events.

Her Honour Judge Hales KC emphasized the significant planning and premeditation involved in the murder, highlighting that Miah’s actions were driven by a desire for financial benefit.

The judge sentenced him to serve a minimum of 33 years in prison.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith of the Metropolitan Police commented on the severity of the sentence, noting that it reflected the violence and deliberate planning behind the crime.

He also acknowledged that forensic analysis of CCTV footage played a vital role in securing justice.

Miah, who had been living separately from Yasmin and was in the process of divorce, had been a suspect for some time.

The investigation was further supported by physical evidence, including blood-stained items recovered from his residence.

The court expressed its sympathies to Yasmin Begum’s family, who continue to mourn her loss.

It was established that Miah’s actions were not only violent but also premeditated, with clear intent to benefit financially from her death.

The case underscores the tragic consequences of domestic violence intertwined with financial desperation, leaving a community in mourning and a family devastated.
