QAMAR IQBAL CAUGHT IN GLASGOW TRYING TO PAY TEEN FOR SEX ON GRINDR
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Glasgow, a man identified as Qamar Iqbal, aged 39, was caught attempting to engage in a sexual act with a minor through the popular gay dating app Grindr. The incident was captured and exposed by a vigilant paedophile hunting group in May of the previous year, leading to a series of serious legal proceedings.
According to reports, Iqbal believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old boy when he initiated contact via Grindr.
Unbeknownst to him, he was actually speaking to members of the vigilante group Wolf Pack Hunters UK Improved, who had set up a decoy to catch potential offenders.
The confrontation was live-streamed on social media, revealing Iqbal’s attempts to arrange a sexual encounter.
During the recorded exchange, Iqbal, who used the alias “Fani,” expressed his intent to pay the boy £15 for sex.
At one point, a woman involved in the group told him, “Say my name is Fani and I am sorry,” to which Iqbal responded with repeated apologies, claiming that his actions were a “big mistake” and insisting it was merely a “joke.” Further into the conversation, a woman asked him directly: “Were you thinking about your wife when you tried to have sex with a child and pay him £15?” Iqbal, who was at his home in the Anniesland district of Glasgow, had sent explicit messages and a photograph of himself to the decoy.
The messages clearly indicated his intentions and his willingness to pay for sex with a minor.
He was subsequently brought before Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of sending sexual communications to a child.
The court also heard that Iqbal had made arrangements to meet the decoy, who was posing as a 14-year-old boy named Robin.
Prosecutor Lauren McRobert revealed that Iqbal had followed up his messages with a statement: “I give you every time £15, but first f***ing,” indicating his explicit intent.
Throughout the exchange, Iqbal repeatedly acknowledged that he was speaking to a minor, yet he continued to pursue the meeting.
He expressed his liking for sex and agreed to pay the decoy the agreed sum.
An appointment was set at Glasgow’s West Street subway station, where members of the vigilante group were waiting and quickly apprehended him.
During the court hearing, defence counsel Claire Connelly stated that Iqbal’s domestic circumstances had not changed since the incident.
The judge, Sheriff Martin Jones QC, deferred sentencing until next month to allow for background reports.
In the meantime, Iqbal, who is employed in a cash and carry, has been placed on the sex offenders register and granted bail.
