PETERBOROUGH MAN JAILED FOR BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER AFTER STRANGULATION CONVICTION
A man who was previously ordered not to contact his former partner after being convicted of assault has been sentenced to jail for breaching that restraining order.Qaisir Yasin, 42, was given an indefinite restraining order following his conviction for intentional strangulation, for which he received a suspended sentence in August 2023.
Despite this, on New Year’s Eve last year, he contacted a relative of the victim around 9.30pm and made threats against her and her family, including his former partner.
He called again about 20 minutes later, pretending to be a debt collector, and ominously mentioned the woman’s mother’s name and address.
The victim expressed fear for her mother’s safety and asked Yasin to stop, but he responded, “I’m not who you think I am.” On July 3, at Peterborough Crown Court, Yasin was jailed for 20 weeks after being found guilty of harassment for breaching the restraining order.
Additionally, a new indefinite restraining order was imposed against him.
DC Carly Reed commented, “Yasin was aware of the conditions set out in his restraining order and showed blatant disregard to them so I’m glad he’s been jailed.
The jail sentence shows how seriously police and the courts take breaches of these strict orders.”
