PURNOR BAWA: KENT PHYSIOTHERAPIST SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN GRAVESEND AND DARTFORD
Purnoor Bawa, a 44-year-old physiotherapist operating in the Kent area, has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault.The conviction follows a lengthy investigation into his conduct, which spanned over five years and involved seven women who sought treatment at his clinics in Gravesend and Dartford.
According to court reports, Bawa employed a disturbing tactic during his physiotherapy sessions, convincing his patients that removing their clothing was a necessary part of their treatment.
He claimed that such procedures were standard practice for addressing their injuries.
However, once the women were undressed, Bawa would exploit the situation by sexually assaulting them, touching areas unrelated to their medical conditions.
Police described him as a 'danger to women' due to his predatory behavior.
Despite denying eight counts of sexual assault, Bawa was convicted after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.
The court heard that in December 2018, Kent Police responded to an incident at Bawa’s workplace in Gravesend, where he was accused of performing an inappropriate massage on a patient being treated for an ankle injury.
At that time, Bawa was already under restrictions that limited his practice to working only with a chaperone present, as part of ongoing investigations by the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS) into his professional conduct.
