PRZEMYSLAW POGORZZELEC SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR BRUTAL RAPE ON BRIGHTON BEACH NEAR HOVE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Przemyslaw Pogorzzelec, a 44-year-old man with ties to Hove, has been sentenced to a significant prison term after being found guilty of a heinous sexual assault that took place on Brighton Beach. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 31 last year, around 2 a.m., when Pogorzzelec forcibly engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with a woman whose identity remains protected for legal reasons.According to reports from Sussex Police, the assault was witnessed by several bystanders who were present on the beach at the time. The victim, overwhelmed and unable to give consent, was approached by members of the Beach Patrol and security personnel from nearby venues. These vigilant individuals intervened when they observed the distress and suspicious behavior, ultimately detaining Pogorzzelec and alerting law enforcement authorities.
During the investigation, the woman recounted that she had not consented to any sexual activity. Pogorzzelec, who initially claimed that he had engaged in consensual sex after a casual conversation with the woman, was unable to provide any meaningful details about her, including her name or age, when questioned by officers. Witnesses confirmed that the woman appeared incapable of giving consent, further corroborating the victim's account.
Throughout the process, specially-trained officers provided the victim with support and assistance, ensuring her well-being during the investigation. The case proceeded to trial at Lewes Crown Court, where Pogorzzelec faced serious charges. On May 2, the court found him guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration. The court also revealed that Pogorzzelec had taken intimate photographs of the woman using his mobile phone during the assault.
The sentencing hearing uncovered additional details about Pogorzzelec’s criminal history. It was disclosed that he had previously been convicted in 2013 for exposure, a sexual offence under the Sexual Offences Act. Despite denying the charges, Pogorzzelec was convicted by a jury after a trial held in January.
As a result of his conviction, Pogorzzelec was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison. Furthermore, the court imposed an extended license period of three years, which means he will be under supervision for an extended period after his release. The judge emphasized the severity of the crime and the impact on the victim, underscoring the importance of holding offenders accountable for such violent and invasive acts. The case has once again highlighted the importance of vigilance and community support in preventing and responding to sexual violence in the Brighton and Hove area.
