PRIYANGSHU KAKATI'S SHOCKING CHILD SEX IMAGE SCANDAL IN NEW MALDEN AND PHILIPPINES
In April 2016, a case emerged involving Priyangshu Kakati, a 38-year-old IT consultant based in New Malden, who became the subject of a serious criminal investigation related to child exploitation.Kakati was found to have engaged in viewing a disturbing Filipino child sex show from his home, an act that drew significant legal attention and public concern.
Investigators from the child exploitation unit traced Kakati’s computer IP address during their probe into the abuse of underage girls in the Philippines.
Their efforts led to his arrest in 2014, during which authorities confiscated two laptops from his residence.
These devices contained a total of 72 indecent images of children, some depicting girls as young as eight being subjected to sexual assault.
The images were part of a broader pattern of disturbing online activity involving Kakati.
During court proceedings, Kakati’s defense lawyer, Michael Reilly, provided context for his client’s actions, suggesting that Kakati was in a particularly vulnerable emotional state following the breakdown of a long-term relationship.
Reilly explained that Kakati had developed a habit of frequenting chat rooms and paying to watch sex shows involving a girl named Lolita.
He acknowledged that Kakati willingly paid for the show but claimed that the operators of the site used the credit card details to send additional material as a means of extorting more money from him.
Reilly further highlighted that since his arrest, Kakati’s family had arranged a marriage for him, and he was employed as a high-powered IT consultant earning approximately £4,000 per month.
The lawyer also argued that if Kakati were to be imprisoned, the IT team he manages in Finland could face job losses, adding a layer of complexity to the sentencing considerations.
Judge Jones, presiding over the case, questioned why Kakati had not deleted the indecent images upon receiving them and noted that the police report indicated Kakati had minimized his behavior.
Despite this, the judge acknowledged Kakati’s guilty plea in April of that year to five counts of making indecent images of children, which was taken into account during sentencing.
In his remarks, Judge Jones emphasized that the images had been downloaded some time ago, and no recent images were found on Kakati’s devices.
He also stated that Kakati was employed and that imprisoning him could have repercussions for others involved in his professional team.
Ultimately, the judge decided to suspend an eight-month prison sentence for 18 months, ordering Kakati to pay £1,200 in court costs and a £100 victim surcharge.
Additionally, Kakati was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing risk to the community.
