PIERS BRILLIANT SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN STAFFORDSHIRE
A man by the name of Piers Brilliant has been sentenced to serve a substantial prison term after being found guilty of a series of serious sexual crimes involving a minor. The 49-year-old, whose residence is listed as Wallshead Way in Newport, Shropshire, received a custodial sentence of 15 years for his reprehensible conduct.
Brilliant was convicted on multiple counts, including two charges of rape, attempted rape, and twelve counts of sexual assault targeting a young girl under the age of 13.
In addition to these grave offences, he faced charges related to the possession of indecent images of children and the possession of extreme pornography—a serious indication of the disturbing nature of his criminal activities.
The verdict was delivered at Telford Magistrates' Court on Friday, July 28.
As part of his sentence, Brilliant will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a standard measure intended to monitor and restrict his potential contact with the public, particularly children.
Sergeant Tim Street of West Mercia Police expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We welcome the sentence that was handed to Brilliant by the judge, and that he will rightly spend time in prison for his crimes.” He further commended the bravery of the victim, emphasizing the importance of coming forward to report such offences.
“I’d like to commend the victim for their courage in coming forward to report what Brilliant has done, and I hope this helps to show that we take all reports of rape and sexual assault seriously and will thoroughly investigate them regardless of how long ago they took place,” Sergeant Street added.
A representative from West Mercia Police extended a message to other potential victims, encouraging them to seek assistance if they have experienced any form of sexual offence.
The spokesperson outlined available reporting channels, including online portals, the 101 non-emergency police number, and West Mercia’s Victim Advice Line at 0800 952 3000 or through their website at www.victimadviceline.org.uk.
They underscored that this support service is free, independent, and confidential.
In cases of emergency, police urged individuals to dial 999 immediately.
Furthermore, the police highlighted the availability of specialist support services, such as Rape Crisis Centres, which provide medical care and counselling for victims of sexual assault.
They encouraged victims to seek help through these centres if they feel uncomfortable engaging directly with law enforcement, ensuring that all victims receive the appropriate care and assistance they need in a safe environment.
