PHILLIP WILLIAMS AND SHOCKING CHILD RAPE IN CARMARTHENSHIRE
In a disturbing and heinous series of crimes, Phillip Williams was convicted of abducting and repeatedly assaulting a young girl in Carmarthenshire, a case that has profoundly shocked the local community and drew widespread condemnation. The incident, which took place during the summer of the previous year, involved a calculated plan by Williams to lure his victim into a vulnerable position before subjecting her to a sequence of brutal and disturbing acts.
According to court reports, Williams forcibly took the schoolgirl into a field in the Llandovery area.
There, he subjected her to a violent assault, during which he beat her severely before stripping her of her clothing.
The attacker then proceeded to give her alcohol and cocaine, ensuring she was under the influence and more compliant.
During this ordeal, Williams tied her hands and held a screwdriver to her neck as he forcibly raped her multiple times.
The girl was visibly distressed, crying out and resisting throughout the attack, and at one point, she asked Williams why he was doing this to her.
His chilling reply was, "Because I can." After the assault, Williams, who was under the influence of cannabis and alcohol, seized her phone and forcibly transported her into his vehicle.
The journey led to wooded areas near Margam Park, where he continued his assault and again demanded oral sex, which the girl refused.
Despite her refusal, Williams beat her again in the secluded woods.
It was during this violent episode that the girl managed to retrieve her phone and escape, fleeing into the nearby area and immediately calling emergency services.
Police officers responded swiftly to the 999 call and found the young girl in a highly distressed state.
She was muddy, half-dressed, shoeless, and overwhelmed by her ordeal.
She was taken to a safe location where medical and psychological assessments were provided.
An extensive investigation ensued, including forensic examinations at the scene of the assaults, where evidence such as the girl's underwear was recovered.
The authorities identified Williams, aged 48, as the perpetrator based on evidence collected and witness statements.
Williams attempted to evade capture, but a coordinated manhunt by Dyfed-Powys Police and South Wales Police resulted in his arrest.
Throughout the legal proceedings, he maintained his innocence, denying all allegations.
In court, a victim impact statement was read aloud by legal representatives, providing a harrowing account of the profound and lasting damage inflicted upon the girl.
She described a drastic change in her personality and mental health: once outgoing and talkative, she now feels paranoid, distrusts strangers, and is riddled with fears that Williams might find her again.
Her sleep is disrupted by nightmares, her weight has decreased, and she feels increasingly isolated at school.
She expressed her wish to change her appearance, her name, and to relocate in an attempt to escape her trauma, emphasizing that "it feels like he took control of my life" and that "nothing will ever be the same again." In response, Judge Catherine Richards condemned Williams' actions as "brutal" and causing "severe psychological harm" to the victim, stating that her life has been profoundly affected in every aspect.
The judge sentenced Williams to 22 years in prison, with an additional eight years of supervised release following his release.
Ultimately, Williams will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
It was also noted that he could be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his sentence, though the Parole Board will decide whether he is suitable for release and under what conditions.
Commenting on the case, Dyfed-Powys Police Detective Inspector Dale Thomas emphasized the resilience of the young girl and the dedication of the investigating team.
He highlighted that Williams believed he could commit his crimes without consequence, but thanks to the bravery of the victim and the rigorous police work, he was ultimately brought to justice.
The case was resolved with a jury verdict delivered in just 40 minutes, underscoring the weight of the evidence and the clear direction of the case.
The community and law enforcement alike hope that this outcome provides some measure of closure and justice for the young victim and her family.
