Haverhill Bulmer Rapist
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Bulmer, Haverhill, and surrounding areas, Phillip Skinner, a 60-year-old man from Kitchen Hill, Bulmer, near Sudbury, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term following his conviction for heinous crimes involving a young girl and possession of indecent images of children.

Skinner's criminal activities came to light after a detailed investigation into allegations that he had raped a girl who was only 14 years old at the time. The assault reportedly took place at a business premises located on Hollands Road in Haverhill, where Skinner was operating a computer business. The victim, a girl from Haverhill, recounted to police that she was raped by Skinner and also by his business partner, Jason Cutts, during the same incident. It was revealed during the trial that Skinner and Cutts had watched each other engaging in sexual acts with the girl on a sofa within the premises, adding a disturbing layer to the case.

Skinner had initially denied the charges but was found guilty by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court last month. The court proceedings uncovered that Skinner, at the time of the attack, had been introduced to the girl by Jason Cutts, 43, who was also involved in the criminal activities. Prior to the trial, Skinner admitted to possessing indecent images of children on a computer that police had seized from his property. This admission came after authorities uncovered evidence of his involvement in child pornography.

On the day of sentencing, Judge Roderick Newton presided over Skinner’s case at Peterborough Crown Court. The judge sentenced Skinner to a minimum of five years in prison, emphasizing that he would only be released once authorities are convinced that he no longer poses a threat to young girls. The judge also highlighted the severity of the crimes, describing them as of 'extreme seriousness.'

In addition to the prison sentence, Skinner was subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order that will remain indefinite, and he was ordered to sign the Sexual Offences Register until further notice. This order aims to monitor and restrict his activities to prevent further harm.

It was also revealed that Skinner had previously served time in prison for possession of child pornography, indicating a troubling pattern of behavior. His criminal record and recent convictions underscore the gravity of his offenses.

Meanwhile, Jason Cutts, who appeared alongside Skinner during the trial, received a significantly harsher sentence of 17 years in prison. Cutts was convicted of six counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault, thirteen counts of making indecent images of children, as well as possessing and distributing such images. His crimes spanned from March 2001 to November 2005, revealing a long history of offending.

Both men had operated computer shops in Sudbury, Halstead, and Haverhill, which served as fronts for their criminal activities. The victim, who lives in Haverhill, provided police with details of the assault, describing how she was raped on a red sofa at one of the shops operated by Skinner and Cutts. The case has brought to light the disturbing extent of their criminal enterprise and the danger they posed to vulnerable young girls in the community.
