PHILLIP HADDOCK SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SELBY

On August 27, 2014, a man from Selby was formally sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses committed against two young children.

Phillip Jon Haddock, aged 43 at the time, appeared before York Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to a total of seven charges related to his heinous acts.

The charges included one count of raping a teenage boy, four separate counts of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13, one count of raping a girl under 13, and an additional charge of attempted rape involving a girl under 13.

These disturbing incidents spanned a period from 2012 to 2014, during which Haddock exploited the vulnerability of his young victims.

Detective Constable Charlotte Gregory, a representative of North Yorkshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit, expressed her thoughts on the case, stating, “The sentence handed down to Phillip Haddock today will be of some comfort to the two children he has violated and taken advantage of during a period of their lives when they were very vulnerable.” She emphasized that while the prison term cannot fully compensate for the trauma inflicted, it provides a measure of justice and allows the victims to begin the process of healing and moving forward.

DC Gregory further highlighted the importance of community safety, saying, “There is no doubt that Haddock presents a danger to children and would have continued to do so had it not been for the courage of his victims and their loved ones in supporting the police investigation.” She underscored that Haddock’s incarceration serves to protect society and children from further harm caused by his depraved actions.

In her closing remarks, DC Gregory encouraged other victims of abuse to come forward, reassuring them that the police have specially trained officers equipped to handle such cases with sensitivity and professionalism.

She also mentioned the availability of support services through partner agencies, urging anyone affected by sexual abuse—whether it occurred recently or years ago—to seek help.

Victims can contact the North Yorkshire Sexual Assault Referral Centre, known as Bridge House, directly at 01904 669339 or visit their website at www.turntobridgehouse.org for assistance and guidance.

Since presumably being paroled, Haddock has lived for several years in Folkestone and worked as a lorry driver at a Dover-based company. Early in October 2025, colleagues who knew nothing of his past contacted the police concerned that he had not been seen for several days, only to be told that police knew of his whereabouts and that he was "safe". Research by the same colleagues soon found his past. Nothing is known about his whereabouts since, the assumption being that he has either been outed and gone to ground or has been arrested for perhaps breach of parole or possibly new offences.
