GLOUCESTERSHIRE WOMAN JAILED FOR ANIMAL NEGLECT AND HOARDING
Philippa Tovey, also known as Pippa Martin, was prosecuted for severe animal neglect at her property in Bream, Gloucestershire. On November 7, 2023, council officials and police officers executed a warrant at her premises in Drybrook, leading to the seizure of two Rottweilers, two French Bulldogs, a young XL Bully Dog puppy, and two guinea pigs due to concerns about their living conditions and health.
During the investigation, Tovey later handed over the animals for rehoming.
Tragically, the XL Bully puppy had to be euthanised because of injuries suffered while in her care, though the specific cause of these injuries was not disclosed.
Tovey pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a puppy and failing to meet the basic needs of five dogs and two guinea pigs.
The court sentenced her to a 12-week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months.
She was also ordered to pay £1,500 towards council costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
Additionally, she was disqualified indefinitely from owning dogs, cats, small furries, and small mammals.
This case highlights ongoing issues with animal welfare violations by breeders and pet hoarders in the area and the legal consequences faced by offenders.
