PHILIP WEBB FROM PONTLLANFRAITH GUILTY OF CHILD SEX ABUSE IN CARDIFF COURT
In a case that has shocked the local community, Philip Webb, a 42-year-old man from Hill View, Pontllanfraith, Blackwood, has been found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving two young children. The conviction was handed down after a rigorous four-day trial at Cardiff Crown Court, where Webb faced six counts of indecent and sexual assault, along with an additional charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.Despite Webb’s persistent denial of the charges, the jury reached a unanimous verdict, declaring him guilty on all counts. The emotional impact of the verdict was evident in the public gallery, where women present in the courtroom were visibly distressed and cried as the jury foreman announced the guilty verdicts.
Throughout the proceedings, Webb’s background was considered, but the court was informed that he had previously maintained a good character and was the primary carer for his mother. Nevertheless, Recorder Peter Rouch QC emphasized that Webb would remain in custody until sentencing, citing the need for a thorough assessment of any potential risk he might pose to the public in the future.
Recorder Rouch also made it clear that Webb’s future sentence would be determined based on the findings of a probation officer experienced in handling cases of this nature. The judge warned Webb that he was aware of the severity of the charges and the likely consequences, underscoring the gravity of the crimes committed in the Pontllanfraith area and the broader Blackwood community.
