Longhaven Sexual Abuser
In a case that has sparked outrage among the victim’s family and the local community, Philip Robinson, a 52-year-old man from Greenleaves Farm in Longhaven, near Peterhead, was spared a custodial sentence despite admitting to the sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl. The incident took place at Robinson’s farm, where he engaged in inappropriate and illegal conduct towards the young girl, instructing her to keep their secret from her family.
Robinson appeared before Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty to charges of lewd, indecent, and libidinous behavior directed at the child in August. Despite the gravity of the allegations, the court sentenced him to a three-year probation period and ordered him to complete 150 hours of community service. This decision has been met with widespread disapproval from the victim’s family, who expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the outcome, describing the punishment as “nowhere near good enough.”
The girl’s mother voiced her anguish, stating, “She went through all that torture and abuse and he gets to walk out to enjoy his Christmas. Where is the justice in that? How do I explain this to my daughter in years to come when she understands?” She further condemned Robinson, calling him “evil” and asserting that he deserved to be imprisoned.
The girl’s father also expressed his frustration, emphasizing that Robinson “shouldn’t be allowed to walk away from this.” The court proceedings revealed that Robinson had taken the child into a barn to look at guinea pigs. During this visit, the girl told her mother to leave the barn, but upon her return, she found her daughter lying on Robinson’s lap. The child later confided that she had to perform her “secret thing” with Robinson, which involved inappropriate touching.
Police interviews confirmed Robinson’s guilt, with him admitting to pulling down the girl’s trousers and underwear to touch her. The young girl was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for a medical examination, which found no injuries. However, the psychological impact of the incident has been significant. The victim has been attending a weekly service for abused children and is receiving counseling. Her family reported that she has been experiencing bedwetting, nightmares, and episodes of distress, especially after an incident where they encountered Robinson while out, which left her severely unwell for the rest of the day.
During sentencing, Sheriff Marysia Lewis acknowledged Robinson’s apparent remorse, stating, “It is clear from reports that you are disgusted with your own behaviour.” She emphasized the breach of trust involved, noting that Robinson was a family friend who had built a relationship with the victim through her family. As part of the sentence, Robinson was also placed on the sex offenders register for three years, marking a formal recognition of the severity of his actions and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
