PORTSMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR HOLDING WOMAN CAPTIVE IN HIS HOME
May 2023: A man aged 67, named Philip John Andrew, has been found guilty of unlawfully detaining a woman at his home on Eastern Road in Portsmouth. The incident took place on April 26 of the previous year, when he restrained and threatened a woman in her 30s after she visited his residence.
Police responded shortly before midnight following reports of threats and the destruction of her phone's SIM card by Andrew, who broke it to prevent her from calling for assistance.
The woman managed to convince him to let her go, leading her to contact emergency services.
Hampshire Police confirmed that she did not sustain serious injuries during the event.
Andrew admitted to the charges of false imprisonment with the intent to commit a sexual offence in March and was sentenced on May 15 at Portsmouth Crown Court to a total of ten years and eight months in prison.
Detective Constable Laura Hardie from Hampshire Constabulary commended her bravery and expressed the hope that justice would aid her recovery, while also encouraging other victims of sexual offences to come forward and seek help.
She described Andrew's actions that night as profoundly disturbing, noting he breached her trust in a severe manner.
