PHILIP HUNT FROM STOCKPORT CAUGHT IN SHOCKING SCHOOLGIRL SKIRT PICTURE INCIDENT AT REDDISH MORRISONS
In April 2013, a disturbing incident unfolded at a busy supermarket in Reddish, Stockport, involving a man who committed an act of indecency against a teenage girl. The perpetrator, identified as Philip Stephen Hunt, was caught taking a photograph up the skirt of a schoolgirl while she was shopping with her mother. The incident was witnessed by a store employee who promptly reported the matter to security personnel, alerting them to the inappropriate behavior. The teenage girl was in the store with her mother when Hunt, aged 43, used his mobile phone to secretly capture the image. The situation escalated when her grandfather, who was also present in the store, confronted Hunt directly. In response, Hunt panicked and fled the scene on foot, discarding his mobile phone in the process. The quick actions of the store staff and the girl's family led to Hunt's swift identification and subsequent arrest.
Following his apprehension, Hunt appeared before Stockport Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of outraging public decency. The court sentenced him to four months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period. The court also mandated that Hunt pay £100 in compensation to the victim, participate in a 35-day sex offenders’ treatment program, and be subject to two years of supervision. Additionally, he was ordered to undergo six months of alcohol treatment, pay £40 in court costs, and contribute an £80 victim surcharge.
Police recovered Hunt’s mobile phone on January 11 following the incident, which allowed authorities to trace him and build their case. The girl’s mother, who requested anonymity for legal reasons, expressed her distress over the incident. She stated, “You have no idea what I would like to do to him. I was horrified, you don’t expect to go shopping and have that happen in a busy store. When the shop assistant told me, I was gobsmacked. I’ve had a few sleepless nights since – it is a worry people like that live in Stockport.”
She further explained how the incident affected her daughter, saying, “It made my daughter feel nervous and uncomfortable. She said afterwards he had been weighing her up and down, which unnerved her. It was an older bloke doing that two or three times.” The incident has left a lasting impact on the family, highlighting the importance of vigilance and swift action in such distressing situations.
