Litherland Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Litherland and the wider Liverpool area, Philip Daltry, a local musician known for performing as a singer and guitarist at various venues across the city, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a teenage girl. The court heard that Daltry, who resides on Hatton Hill Road in Litherland, engaged in a prolonged period of grooming and abuse that spanned nearly two decades.

Daltry’s criminal actions began in the mid-2000s when he befriended a 15-year-old girl through MSN Messenger, a popular messaging platform at the time. His initial approach involved establishing a connection over shared interests in music, which he used as a means to gain her trust. Over time, he provided her with alcohol, cigarettes, CDs, and mobile phone top-ups, further solidifying their bond. The court was told that Daltry’s manipulative tactics included calling her school while impersonating her father, in an attempt to have her skip classes and spend more time with him.

As their relationship progressed, Daltry’s misconduct escalated. He invited her to his home in Litherland to collect CDs, and later met her in a pub where he offered to buy her vodka. The prosecution detailed how he went on to kiss her in Wavertree Mystery Park, touched her sexually on his sofa, and coerced her into performing sexual acts. During this period, he also bought her cigarettes and mobile phone credit, further exerting control over her. The girl, who is now an adult, testified that she feared she might have become pregnant by him at one point.

Further disturbing revelations emerged during the trial, including instances where Daltry called her school pretending to be her father, claiming she was unable to attend. Their contact was eventually interrupted when her mother discovered MSN messages in which Daltry expressed a desire to see her out of the shower, revealing the extent of his inappropriate interest.

It was only in 2022 that the girl reported the abuse to the police. During police interviews, Daltry denied the allegations, claiming he had not committed any of the sexual acts he was accused of. Despite his denials, the evidence presented in court was compelling. The victim delivered a heartfelt statement, expressing the long-lasting impact of his actions: “For years, I’ve carried the blame, shame, and guilt for what he did to me. That has affected how I’ve felt about myself for my whole life. I’ve blamed myself for many years.”

In court, Daltry pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual activity with a child. He appeared in the dock wearing a black jacket over a burgundy shirt, showing no visible reaction as he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. Judge David Potter described his actions as grooming that progressively led to more severe sexual abuse, emphasizing how Daltry used their shared interest in music to ingratiate himself into her life. The judge also imposed a lifelong restraining order preventing Daltry from contacting the victim and mandated that he register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
